Delilah's early childhood was mostly spent with her brothers; she never knew her father and her mother barely cared about any of her three children. Bobby was always the closest thing to a parent she had, and for as long as she could remember, she idolized him. When their mother came home changed one day and he told her she had to leave, she followed without question.
They were all too young to be wandering around on their own, and it was a miracle that they found the Utah outlander community. The world may have been in shambles, but for Delilah, it was the first time she had a community and adults who cared about them. Their new life was a challenge, but she was young enough that she learned to adapt. Her schooling was, admittedly, more focused on survival skills than maths and literature, but she was grateful for Bobby's sake, that not everything was on his shoulders anymore. She still trailed after him, of course, but she also tried to learn from everyone she could; she was often found following the older kids like a puppy, asking the adults too many questions, trying to earn her place so she wouldn't be a burden to anyone.
Delilah was a teen when a supply run with Bobby went wrong. She was caught and he escaped. They never found her mother but she was placed with a new family, given a new life, and the veil dulled the ache in her chest, the longing for her old life. It became a distant memory, a dream, as she settled into her new reality and shifted from a feral child to a somewhat productive member of society. Even with the veil, she had much to catch up on and learn but it stopped her from wanting to run away, at least for awhile.
But then came the dreams, and when her implant started malfunctioning, Delilah hid it. She was going to find her way back west, to try to find Bobby, but when her best friend started experiencing similar issues, Delilah decided to stay instead. She and Mav remained undetected for awhile before they were both discovered and recruited.
Much to her shock, there was Bobby and others she once knew. She's still working through her feelings about not being the one he chose to rescue while trying to rediscover who she is now that she has some semblance of freedom.
